Much opprobrium for Günter Grass confessing he had been part of the Waffen-SS during the Second World War. We had long known he had served as a soldier during this time, but the dreaded Waffen-SS? To me, much ado about nothing. It's not as if he had been part of the Allgemeine SS and served in a death camp. What will we say of the writer, 60 years fromnow, who championed yet another war criminal?
