So Mehregan is visiting from DC this week. We met last night and are supposed to go to this art opening tonight at Mindboggles. Mehregan recently came back from London, where he met with Esmail Kho'i (the Persian poet he and I are trying to translate), as well as another exiled poet and Forugh Farozhkad's widower, Ebrahim Golestan (Farozhkad being one of the most prominent female poet from the Persian second wave of modernism, with Ahmad Shamlou and Kho'i). He discussed much poetry with them and took video footage of the conversation. He and I should work on subtitling it after Thanksgiving. However, because Golestan is quite a recluse nowadays, Mehregan promised not to release that section of the video until after Golestan's death. On the other hand, Mehregan is planning to work on the Kho'i segments and those of the second poet (really, his name is on the tip of my tongue right now)
We also talked about translating a second Persian poet (the one he met in London), because you know, we've had groundbreaking work on Kho'i already (yes, I am being sarcastic).
EDIT 11/17/06 4:23PM: The poet/journalist I was thinking about is Jawad Mojoobi.
