Okay, that was disappointing, but not quite unexpected. The Swiss are tough, but that uncalled handball blocking Thierry Henry's shot at the 38th minute? Totally unacceptable. A very tense game otherwise (unlike Paraguay vs Sweden #2 aka England). And Fabien Barthez was totally at a disadvantage during the second half, with the sun glaring right in front of him. Vikash Dhorasoo was a nice surprise
And I want to do violence upon the ESPN commentator. I have never heard such a stupid and inane sport commentator ever. One, you don't talk about the performance of the US team during the game, unless the game is in the same group. Besides, the US team sucks compared to most team in the tournament (with the exception of Saudi Arabia). Two, you don't snark at another team. This is not baseball. "Ten thousands of their own fans booed them when they last appeared at the Stade de France. I can see why" just shows how little you know about football. France had the majority of ball possessions during the game and had the majority of shots. Same thing when you say that France (or any other team) has "accomplished" its "mission" for an opening game.

speaking of defense, i really need to bitch at domenech's formation, which privileges defense when zidane and henry work best with two strikers.
ps. I've been commentating on shopwork on your stuff yesterday (and hopefully today). Sorry it's so late!
