The first thought that comes to mind when watching the American team play today is, this can't be the same squad that played against the Czech Republic a couple of days ago. It needs to be said that the US played beautifully today. Granted, that goal was scored by the Italians against themselves, but Brian McBride was in position to score it, had Italy's Zaccardo not scored it himself. And then again, the US had a good possession of the ball during the second half, considering that Eddie Pope had been red-carded early on, bringing the squad down to 9 players (Pablo Mastroeni (US) having been red-carded as well during the first half, after De Rossi had been ejected). And while I wanted to slap ABC's commentators several times, I agree that there were several questionable calls throughout the game.
Now bracing myself for the France-Korea game, which should be intense. France needs to start with two strikers, either Trézéguet or Dhorazoo with Thierry Henry. Because the Koreans will be defending Henry during the game. And Zidane too.
