Once again, Jean-Marie Le Pen proves how much of a douchebag he is. Someone at Deadspin tried to compare him to Trent Lott. I agree with that statement. Truthfully, if Le Pen were an American politician, he'd be one of those "mainstream" Republicans.

Le Pen is a complete wacko. Susan Sontag references talks about him quite a bit in "AIDS and its Metaphors", and I also distinctly remember news stories that he was torturing people in Algeria.

While still living in France, I've spent years fighting Le Pen. When his party came to Strasbourg for an extraordinary convention with European far-right parties, I helped organize the protest against it.

Le Pen claims he lost his eye during combat in Algeria. About 7 years ago, his first wife came out and said he lost it to cataract. The stories about his torture practice are something he keeps claiming, but his first wife also said he had an administrative assignment during this time. But that he claims it says a lot about his character.

Truthfully, I dislike both Le Pen and Sarko. But then again, Sarko is better than Pasqua or de Villiers.
